Difference Makers
By Taylor Ann Carpenter
My Cup of Tea is a local nonprofit based in Orange Mound. The company has made a difference in not only in the community but in the lives of the women who work there. Cheryl Henderson is the supervisor at My Cup of Tea. She’s been there since 2016.
We are a small social enterprise nonprofit here in the Orange Mound community changing lives of women in the community with job stability, friendship, and hope selling tea.
The people working at My Cup of Tea are all women who were raised in Orange Mound. It is their home. Each has a unique story that intersects through the business.
We just come together as a group to make things better for ourselves and then we reach out into the community.
The mission of My Cup of Tea is to give back to the women in Orange Mound.
That was Rosalyn Willis more commonly known as Roz.
Oh man! I can’t wait to come to work.
Each woman has their duties and responsibilities for the nonprofit.
Roz spends her days putting together tea packages in a way that is pleasing to the eye. If you look around her workspace there are already dozens of jars packaged for Christmas filled with tea and a personal touch of a jingle bell attached to a nicely tied ribbon.
Though there are tasks that must be done to keep it up and running, My Cup of Tea is more than just work. It is where transformations change take place. Cheryl explained it perfectly.
I say I am part of the change because what we do here is empower women.
Thanks to My Cup of Tea the women were able to change and improve so that they could change and improve their community.
It’s not just good tea. It’s tea with a purpose. It’s not just a job. It’s a movement.
